I know it's late, but I couldn't resist doing a quick post about Lady Gaga's Oscars outfit!

As most of you know, Lady Gaga won Best Song for the movie A Star Is Born at the 2019 Oscars. I'm very glad she won, she deserved it!

I loved how Gaga paid tribute to the past in her outfits that night. The beautiful canary yellow diamond necklace was the same diamond worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's publicity photos. As soon as I saw the necklace, I knew! It's breathtaking, and gives perfect old Hollywood vibes.

I love how Lady Gaga has grown with her career. While I like her outlandish outfits, it's nice to see her sophistication evolve, while still keeping her uniqueness.

Please see A Star Is Born if you haven't already! It's a beautiful love story, and both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper give amazing performances!

Breakfast at Tiffanys, Audrey Hepburn

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Now that I have my own apartment, & more specifically my own kitchen, I am determined to start getting creative in the food department. I've been experimental in the dessert areas of baking, but I've always stuck to my tried & true recipes I know from growing up. Pork chops, tacos, roast, meat loaf, & pasta, to name a few. While this is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, I want to branch out & discover new foods. I also want to get more invested in my baking. I have a kitchen aid mixer that has hardly been touched, so making cookies from scratch is on the top of my list!

Now, don't get me wrong. I know I won't become a chef overnight. It takes practice, skill, & trial and error. I've had my fair share of recipes that flopped (some literally), but I've also had some delicious recipes that I'm proud of. Pinterest has been an amazing inspiration, but I haven't had the determination to actually make what I'm pinning. So I'm going to go through my cooking related boards & find things to make. I guess this is a resolution. Try my hand at a few recipes & hope for the best!

Comment below if you have any funny cooking/baking stories, or if you are going to start trying new recipes!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Breakfast at Tiffany's: Breakfast at Tiffany's

I've been working a temporary job for three years now. While the pay is decent, I don't get sick leave or vacation leave or any leave for that matter. However, I recently found out that my position is now permanent! That means I get paid leave & benefits. A true blessing!

As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. That means this new-found additional pay has got me thinking. I really need to start thinking about my future, specifically financially. I have no student loans, which is a plus. However, I'm slowly working my way towards a bachelor's degree. This requires me to pay out-of-pocket for my classes. If you've been to college, you know the cost of taking just one class. Hence, my slow ascent to a four year degree.

While college is one thing, I also like nice things. It's the fashionista in me. But my frivolous spending, while not a huge problem, could be subdued a bit. Here are a few things I'm going to do to help keep my spending in check:

  • Buy Things I Need ~ Rather than add another purse to my collection, I'll instead buy shoes that are work appropriate. Yes, still spending on fashion. Just more sensible purchases that get more use for their cost.
  • Use What I Have ~ Purses, shoes, movies, beauty products. Things I already bought need to be used.
  • Have Cash On Hand ~ When I see my money leave my hands, rather than swiping a card, I'm more liable to put my items back.
  • Stay Organized ~ Having my room clean & organized will help me see what I already have. Then I won't think I need some new flats when I see them sitting in my closet.

I'm hoping little things like that will keep me in check with my money. At the very least, I should become more aware of where my money is going. Every little bit helps!

After countless times of watching Breakfast At Tiffany's, I've always wondered about where Holly got her morning breakfast before gazing into the Tiffany's window.

I knew it started with an "S," at least the bag gave that much away. But while browsing eBay for Audrey Hepburn dolls, I saw that there was a close up of her bag & coffee, with a name!

This question had always bugged me. I mean, where would eclectic & fashionable Holly get her morning pick-me-up at 6 AM? To finally have an answer, I felt closure (Okay, I'm a little dramatic. But this had always bugged me. Plus, wouldn't other Holly Golightly lovers wonder this??).

So I did a little bit of research about Schrafft's. What made this place acceptable for Holly to dine?

Schrafft's was a chain of high-volume moderately priced New York restaurants connected to the Schrafft's food and candy business of Boston. They offered large, pleasant dining rooms "in the better areas" which often attracted ladies who were in these areas for shopping. Schrafft's restaurants had a lot of women lunch customers and it was said this was because they felt safe there, where, until later years, there were no standing bars. Schrafft's was in fact one of the first restaurants to allow unescorted women on a routine basis (Holly, anyone?). The dining rooms, which had tablecloths at dinner time, and later had separate standing bar areas, were supplemented by fountain service lunch counters, separate rooms in which were displayed for sale Schrafft's branded candy and ice cream, and various items such as cellophane-wrapped gift baskets of fruit, candies, etc., and stuffed toys.

"Everyone wore hats and handmade suits. And if you were a lady, it was safe to sit at the soda fountain and drink gin from a teacup (Source)."

Despite the famous shot, Hepburn didn't care much for a Danish treat. According to a 1960 New York Times report, "Miss Hepburn, it developed, had no affection for the Danish, preferring ice cream at Schrafft's."

Apparently this was a wonderful place to enjoy a meal, as well as some dessert! Sadly, Schrafft's is no longer in business. Though, it's almost for the best in a way. Nostalgia & remembrance of a better time make me glad that Schrafft's can only be found in pictures. And, of course, Breakfast At Tiffany's.

Holly Golightly is one of my favorite female movie characters. Strong, independent, & of course fashionable. Her care-free style & easy, yet beautiful, outfits are a true inspiration to me as a fashionista. In many ways, Holly has a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe takes a minimalist approach to your closet-in essence, you have between thirty to fifty pieces of clothing that can be interchanged to created numerous outfits. The pieces tend to be classics, such as a trench coat or basic dress. When I heard about the idea of a capsule wardrobe I thought, "Never gonna happen." Then I thought of the wardrobe that Holly has in Breakfast At Tiffany's. While I don't think her wardrobe was minimal by choice (hello, the girl loved Tiffany's!), she had one anyway.

If you pay attention to what she wears throughout the film, she actually re-wears a few of her outfits. Many times she just changed a few accessories or her shoes. While I personally can't even think about having a capsule wardrobe (I'm more of a closet hoarder like Carrie from Sex And The City), I do understand the reasons & benefits. Looking at Holly's pieces, she has a beautiful selection of outfits. They are versatile, offering mixable outfit options. Pops of color help her stand out in a crowd, & unique accessories take her from plain to glam! I simply adore Holly's wardrobe, & I think most of the pieces she wears could be easily incorporated into anyone's wardrobe today!
